GitHub Copilot Transitions to Consumption-Based Pricing
22-06-2026 15:37Following Microsoft Copilot Studio and Azure AI Foundry, GitHub Copilot has transitioned to a consumption-based pricing model alongside its user-based monthly licenses. GitHub Copilot now uses GitHub AI Credits—another monetary unit in the Microsoft licensing landscape—priced at USD $0.01 per credit, consistent with the other platforms. What Has Changed? As of June 1, 2026, GitHub Copilot Premium Request Units (PRUs) have been replaced by GitHub AI Credits. With this change, GitHub aligns its pricing model with Copilot Studio and Azure AI Foundry, each costing US$ 0.01 / credit. AI Credits are consumed based on token usage, including input tokens, cached tokens, and output tokens. Each AI model has a published API rate, which determines how credits are consumed. These rates can be reviewed via the official GitHub documentation.
